The verdict

Would we buy again?

YES — AT FULL PRICE

The Q3 43 isn't a camera you buy. It's a camera that survives your indecision for 18 months and then you wake up one morning and realize you haven't carried your phone for photos in a year.

Kenji shot the Tokyo trip on nothing but the Q3. Mira took it to Mexico. Naomi wore it around her neck for the gallery opening. We passed the same camera across three continents and every single one of us wrote the same note in our review docs: I want one.

The 43mm f/2 is the draw. 43mm is the focal length of the human eye — and shooting with it feels like shooting *what you see*, not what you chose to compose. Combined with the full-frame sensor and APO-Summicron optics, the images look like ruined film scans in the best way.

Is it worth $7,000? No. Is it worth every dollar anyway? Also no — but we haven't stopped shooting it. That's as close to a recommendation as a magazine can give.

What worked
  • 43mm feels like walking-around perfect — not too wide, not too long
  • In-body stabilization means shots at 1/15s are actually usable
  • 8K video is overkill but the oversampled 4K is stunning
What didn't
  • $7,000 is $7,000. Nothing justifies this if you don't shoot weekly.
  • Battery life is Leica (read: moderate)
