The verdict

Would we buy again?

YES — AT FULL PRICE

This is a 34-year review. Mira's mother bought the exact same pan in 1992, in the same color. It is still her primary braising vessel. It has cooked a stock every winter for three decades.

There are cheaper enameled Dutch ovens — Lodge, Cuisinart, Staub (Staub is also excellent). But Le Creuset's enamel is the one that doesn't crack, and their warranty is lifetime.

Buy once. Cook hard. Will be in your will.

What worked
  • Enameled cast iron — no seasoning anxiety
  • Goes from stovetop to 500°F oven to table
  • A single pan you keep forever and pass down
What didn't
  • Heavy. A full 5.5qt braise is 13lbs before food.
  • Chip the enamel and the repair is… eat around it
